Hi there! This is my "Going to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico" post. I am trying a new slide show thing and will be trying it in this post. I'm trying to find the one I like the best and is the easiest to use. Of course you'll see Bonehead in the slide shows too. I couldn't leave her out!..........Leaving 1/10, entering Mexico on 1/11, and coming back to "Home Sweet Home" on 1/20.........We traveled with Jim/Carol, Dennis/Sandy, Ron/Linda, Jerry/Pat, Dick/Jan, and Bruce/Kittie. 7 rigs total.........There is way too much to write so you'll be seeing more pictures.....First night out we camped at some BLM land south of Ajo, Arizona. Dan and I really liked the area because heading to the border we went through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. We had never seen the organ cactus yet and it was way cool! We would like to go back to that area and stay for awhile and explore. Check it out.

We crossed over the border with no problems. The Mexican government doesn't care if you come across and no one is hanging at the border watching you. Down the road a ways we had to stop and fill out a "Migratory Form For Foreign Tourist". That was the first of money passed over to the Mexicans for wanting to see their country. Dan and I each had to pay 23 bucks. Guess its like a visa. So, on down hwy 2 we go, a little 2 lane road in rather good shape. We had to stop and pay 2 road tolls before we stopped for the night at a truck stop. We ate at a really good place where not much English was spoken. That was interesting trying to look at the English menu and point out to the waitress where it was on the Mexican menu. On Saturday, 1/12, we reached our destination. San Carlos. We all found places to put our rigs right near the beach. I LOVE being near the beach and liked where we were camped. Bonehead liked it too. She did alot of exploring. http://www.sancarlosmexico.com/
San Carlos is full of Americans and Canadians that live there part time in HUGE houses and condos. A resort town...........Dan took the quad out and rode out on the beach. I thought we might ride the quad alot, but we didn't. I was busy collecting shells with Sandy on the beach and Dan was doing his thing. I LOVE shell collecting. We both picked up some nice shells, rocks, and some sea glass.........It didn't take long before the "locals" discovered we were camped at the beach. People came around to wash your windows, collect firewood, etc (for a fee). I liked it when Alejandro (the veggie/fruit/seafood/etc) man came around in his pickup loaded with good stuff to buy. I bought some shrimp and fish for cheap cheap cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then he throws all this free stuff in with your purchase. Veggies and fruit. Free is good. I bought stuff from him twice. He was quite the character. We sat on the beach as the sun was setting and watched the pelicans. There were LOTS of them and they are fun to watch. We have no internet here but we have tv.
Sunday was another nice and warm day. We had a very lazy morning just hanging around the camp site. In the afternoon me/Dan, Kittie/Bruce, Sandy/Dennis, and Dick/Jan went to Guymas to explore. That was the first and last time I went there. Its too big, busy, noisy, dirty, and too many people. Not my idea of fun. We went into a mall and walked around. That was ok. Just like our malls at home. I personally, was glad to leave Guymas. I'm not even gonna put a link on here so you can read about this town. Believe me, its not worth checking out.
Monday was another nice day. Of course I was on the beach with Sandy collecting more shells. Went into San Carlos to explore and shop. Now, that is a neat little town! I bought some post cards and 2 sun dresses. We found the post office and Dan bought some post card stamps for me. It costs $1.50 to mail a post card out of Mexico to the States. I don't know about anyone else in our group, but I rather felt "cut off" from my country. It cost alot to mail something, our cell service sucked, no internet. I really didn't care if the phone rang or that I couldn't email or chat on my computer, it was just the idea that I didn't have any options at all. Just how I felt and my opinion..........We all went to dinner that night at the Hotel Marina Terra. It was most excellent! Dan and I shared a shrimp cocktail like you wouldn't believe. It came in a HUGE goblet. I should have taken a picture. It was YUMMY!
Tuesday was another bright and sunny day. Went back to the beach for shell collecting again. Dan went into Guymas to get water while I was at the beach. (We were all dry camping so we had to go get our water). The veggie man came again and most of us bought stuff from him.........Everyone was just "doing their thing" when the commandant showed up with an interpreter. He told us we all had to leave by late afternoon. No more camping on the beach. Ok. So be it. Most of us packed up and drove into San Carlos to the Oasis RV Park. Some remained on the beach for awhile longer until they started the drive north back out of Mexico. Now we had full hookups again and I had the internet back. I guess this park will not exist soon so sometimes the water didn't work and there were some electrical problems. We lost water once but not for long. Everything else was fine. We ate dinner at the on-site restaurant and it was good. There was a swimming pool there but they seemed to be doing some sort of maintenance on it, so no swimming. There was also a pool table. The guys played pool with cue sticks with no tips, there was no chalk, and no eight ball. They had fun playing anyway. Heavy competition going on there.
Wednesday we all woke up to chilly sunshine. It was a lazy morning for me. Seeing as I had the internet, I worked on my blog, checked on some airline prices, and put an ad on Craigs List for a rental in Florida (when we go to Dan's son's wedding in May). We woke up to a flat tire on the 5th wheel. Dan says its the "right 2". Dan and Bruce took it off and we later went into San Carlos to get it fixed. Only cost 5 bucks and we had a good tire again.
Ok, now I'll confess that I didn't keep track of things after this. I got lazy. We wouldn't be able to take eggs back across the border with us, so we had breakfast for dinner one night. That was GOOD! The last night in the rv park we all went back to the on-site restaurant. It was awful and VERY noisy! We think there was only one cook and he or she was either not very efficient or was just plain incompetent. Food wasn't bad when they finally gave it to you, but all in all in my opinion, most everything that night sucked.
The next day we were off to the States. As you can see by the slide show I took mostly pictures of getting through the toll booths and check points to get us home. We're going across the border at Nogales, paying more tolls, stopping for fuel, all the regular travel stuff. We got to the border and only had to wait 1 1/2 hours to get through. We were told that we might have to wait 4 or 5 hours. Thank goodness we didn't. Our rig was searched and I had to give up uncooked chicken, my eggs, a small ham, and my Christmas wreath that Jason had sent us. So going across the border wasn't a bad experience. We sure seen alot of poverty on the Mexican side of Nogales. Real sad........We got over onto OUR side of the border, found the local super Walmart, parked our rigs for the night, and Dick and Bruce kissed the ground. I think everyone was happy to be back on American soil. I'm glad we went to Mexico and I had alot of fun there but I don't think we saved any money. Things there are about the same price there as they are here at home (except for the fish I bought from the veggie man). Oh well. This is just how I feel about things............Anyway, hope you liked all the pictures I put in this post. Next post will be about going to Tombstone and Willcox, Arizona.
