I guess I'll be taking over writing for Bonehead for awhile. Her life is pretty cushy right now and shes not going anywhere with us at all........We went into Mexico twice yesterday, 10/20. The first time we went to Douglas, AZ and crossed over the border into Agua Prieta. We just walked right over the border. No one checked us or cared that we were crossing. We walked right by a place for shopping carts. All lined up like what you see in any big grocery store. All these carts said Wal Mart. People were pushing the carts full of groceries or whatever, parking them at the border, then hauling their goods back into Mexico with them. It looked like a mini shopping cart parking lot. I should have taken a picture of that but I was thinking of other things. Like walking right into Mexico. I'm thinking that if you walked into Mexico and forgot to have your ID on you, you'd never get back out. I didn't like Agua Prieta. It was a filthy place. It seemed like the people over there didn't care. It was a very depressed place. I didn't get the warm fuzzie feelings about this place at all. The only thing good was the meal we ate. We shared something and it was very good. Chicken, beans, rice, some different tasting soup, and some weird sauce the chicken was cooked in. Oh, and some hot salsa. Dan liked that. They spoke very little English. Dan just pointed out what he wanted on their reader board menu. We decided that we'd had enough of that border town and ventured on to another. Our ID was actually checked when coming back into the USA. This time we headed back towards Bisbee. We'd already been there looking to cross over the border but couldn't find where to walk over. This time we found the right place. Again, we just walked over the border. No one cares about you. No one checks and ID. You just go. Naco, Mexico is alot nicer than Agua Prieta. It wasn't as depressed and wasn't as dirty. They actually had some English on the stores so you knew what kind of store you were going into. It still wasn't the best place, but it was better. Its really not a tourist town. You just go into their store and look around. No one tries to sell you stuff and no one hassles you. You could tell that the people in this border town had a better life than the ones who lived in Agua Prieta. I was kinda bothered by the one guy that was really looking at my camera. I mean REALLY looking at it, so I put it away. No more pictures. The stores that we went into were clean and people actually spoke some English to us. Dan can get by with the Spanish, but not me. I don't know many words at all. Just the important ones. Bathroom, water, thank you, good morning/afternoon/evening. Thats good enough for me. When we walked back into the USA our ID wasn't checked. They just looked at Dan and asked him where he was from and let us go. Hows that for security? Very few Americans were in either town. And in both towns, you take your life into your hands when trying to cross the street. I felt like I was in the Philippines again where they drive with one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand on the horn. And, of course, the little kids are trying to wash car windows are you're waiting in line to get out of Mexico. Trying to earn some money. Dan laughed at me because one of them came up to me selling Chiclets (gum). I bought some from him and he was quite pleased with the quarter I gave him for two packs of Chiclets. Next time we go to Mexico, we'll be going across the border at Nogales. I've been there before and Nogales caters to the tourists. Lots of shops and markets and bartering happening. We came back home, took Bonehead outside for awhile, and just chilled the rest of the evening. I'm putting a picture of how Bonehead chills with Dan. Shes just too funny. Oh. It was hot today. Wonderful weather!
