Hi from Walla Walla, WA. We went to the Whitman Mission and Fort Walla Walla today. The Whitman massacre was real sad. We walked along the Oregon Trail again as it goes through where the mission was. After working 11 years with the Indians, the mission effort ended in violence. The Indians had no resistance against the measles epidemic, and within a short time, about half the tribe died. The Indians could see that the medicine was helping the white kids and not theirs, making them believe that their kids were being poisoned by Dr. Whitman. The Cayuse attacked the mission and the Whitman's, along with others, were killed. We really liked the mission better than the fort. I took some pictures of some old stuff at the fort though. Not gonna write much. Just put pictures on here. Tomorrow we head for Kamiah, Idaho and will be there until the end of April. Here are a couple of web-sites to check out. www.nps.gov/whmi http://www.fortwallawallamuseum.org
