We left Bandon on Sunday, 10/12. It was a good travel day. We stayed in Fortuna, California at Riverwalk RV Park. Not a bad park. Crowded, but not bad. Seems like there were alot of more permanent people there.........The second day out we were traveling down hwy 101 then on hwy 20. Talk about some "butt pucker" curves! I know we're shorter then the semi-trucks, but its still kind of scary. At least I think so. Dan just laughs at me. We stayed at a truck stop. Free is always good....Our third day was just driving down I-5. BORING! I will admit that the freeway has been paved since I was on it before and its not a bad road now. So far. Better then 99 anyway. We stayed at Kettleman City, CA. Just a blurp in the road with several gas stations, fast food joints, couple of cafes, small market, and a STARBUCKS! A Starbucks out here in the middle of no where!!!!!!!!!!!!! And a city? Where? Someone had a good sense of humor when this place was named. We stayed at a "mom and pop" RV park. Travelers RV Park. Not the best...........Today, Wednesday 10/15, we started out in really nice weather. It was another boring drive down I-5. Soon we crossed over to hwy 99, drove down into Bakersfield and hacked a left onto hwy 58 to head over Tehachapi Pass and down into Barstow. Whew! Last time we passed through this area we stayed at the KOA in Yermo. This time we're staying at the Calico Ghost Town Campground for 2 days. We seen the ghost town last April and we really liked it. Probably won't go see it again. We might drive back into Barstow to a big grocery store so I can get a few things. Its really quiet here and we had a beautiful sunset. We'll be leaving Friday morning as the weekend people all come in. The Ranger told us that this weekend the campground will be packed. Glad we'll be out on I-40 traveling towards Quartzsite.
