Good Sunday morning! We arrived at Desert Gardens RV Spa Resort last Thursday the 25th, 4 miles south of Florence, Arizona. We have a huge space. Its alot nicer than I thought it would be. We have a "green belt" (not exactly what I would call a green belt, but no one is in back of us. Its brush, cactus, desert stuff.), so Bonehead has room to play and roam. Shes already seen the quail that live here but hasn't spotted the bunnies yet. There are lots of hummingbirds here. In Quartzsite we didn't see any wildlife. Only heard the coyotes at night. I think we're seeing critters here because its warmer. Its still cold at night, but since we've been here, it warms up from about noon to 5pm and you don't need a jacket. The sun is working real good on the solar panels. Dan turns on the electric at night and we use solar all day until about 6pm. I know hes thinking of getting one more panel and two more batteries sometime in the future. Electric is very expensive here in Arizona. We learned that when staying in Tombstone and used the space heater at night. Anyway, this is not a bad place. Its a very neat, tidy, and roomy park. The people here all seem to be real nice so far. A few have been amazed that Bonehead takes us for walks without being on a leash. And, this is a "no kid" park. No kids riding around on bikes or doing all the kid stuff. Florence is small so we have to drive 11 miles to Coolidge to Super Walmart or Safeway for groceries. Soon we'll be driving either to Mesa or Tucson to Costco. Probably to Mesa. Its closer and there is alot of stuff to explore up that way. We plan to go drive through the Superstition Mountains and see the Lost Dutchman Mine. As we see things, I'll try and remember to put links here on the blog so you can go look too. We'll be taking the metal detector out to go treasure hunting too. Some of you know that I took care of Smokey for alot of years when he was ill. Well, he grew up in Florence. I'm not sure how long he lived here, but I'm gonna go to the library or court house and try and do some research. I'd like to find out if the schools here are the original ones that he would have attended. And try and find the street he lived on. He talked about Florence alot. I wish I would have listened better to him when he did, but everyone knows what a story teller he was and his stories were all "fish tales". Always the truth, but "expanded" to make them more interesting. That was Smokey.......I guess the Hell's Angels have a rally right down the street from us at Yolanda's Chuckwagon Bar on 2/11. We ate there the first day we got here. Its within walking distance, so we'll be walking down there to check out all the vendors and bikes. Their rally is called "24th Annual Prison Run". I was told that the people in the RV park go out to the road and watch the parade of them all going from the bar to Florence, where the prison is, then they turn around and come back to the bar. Dan and I have done that before, but we've never "cruised" a prison. I would be interested in watching them cruise by the prison to see how the inmates reacted instead of watching them from the rv park. I'll take some pictures....I can look outside this morning and see the sun in a blue sky with a slight wind today. I'm looking out to the southeast. The other side of the 5th wheel gets the pretty sunsets. With a more western exposure, we'll be able to sit outside longer in the warm, setting sun. Nice.
