Good SUNNY morning from Arizona! The last week the weather has been sooooooo nice. Just like what we thought it should be. Its been colder than normal here in the southwest and we've used our heater every night since we've been gone. The daytime always has a chill in the air. This past week there hasn't been a chill in the air and our heater has stayed off most of the time at night. All the local people from every place we've been, has told us that this cold weather is unusual and not to judge the southwest by how its been this Winter. Ok. We won't. No problem there. At least we don't have to worry about snow!...........We've been rather busy since I last wrote. All of us. Bonehead goes out and explores a little farther away from the 5th wheel each time. She loves walking through the brush and cactus and finding a little hiding place to lay down and just chill. We both stay close by and always know where she is. We've both had to pull stickers out of her paws when shes out and about. Shes becoming "desert wise", but still can't avoid all the stickers. We all have a problem with the Cholla cactus. Also called, jumping Cholla, as when you walk by them or cause any vibration when near them, they actually jump out at you and stick to you. And, they sure do HURT! We've all been "attacked" by them, so we walk a wide circle around them. I put a picture of them laying on the ground in an earlier blog. They had all fallen off the cactus bush. OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feels like barbed fish hooks in you! Aside from picking stickers out of her paws, shes having a good time outside. Lots of birds, quail, to flush out of the brush. Bunnies to watch. Butterflies to chase. She moves real good for an old cat! Dan and I have gone 4 different places in 4 days. On Tuesday, 2/6, we went to Goldfield Ghost Town. www.goldfieldghosttown.com. This is a tourist trap, but a fun one to look at. It was an old gold mining town with some original structures still there. No metal detecting there. Oh sigh. Too bad. You can have access to where the mines were or where the miners stayed in "tent city". That would be a good place to play with the metal detector, but...........So, we walked around and checked everything out. Took a little train ride around the town which I thought was interesting, and did all the tourist stuff. We both liked all the old stuff around the town. The authentic stuff................On Wednesday, 2/7, we went to Old Tucson Studios, www.oldtucson.com........I've been here before with Michael back in 1990. Since then the north half of it has burned down. This is where alot of old movies were filmed. Like John Wayne movies. You'll all have to look at the web-site and read about it. Everything is a movie set. Like "Little House on the Prairie". If you seen "Wild Wild West" with Will Smith, you'll see a picture of the Reno train that was in the movie. We went on a guided tour which was way cool as the guide described told about alot of the movies and shows which had been filmed there. He also told funny stories about John Wayne, Dean Martin, Clint Eastwood, and Ricky Nelson. Things that happened to them on the movie sets. Blooper type stuff. Seen some Cancan girls do their show and seen where "High Chaparral", the TV show, was filmed. Its a fun place to see if you wanna try and remember old movies and remember seeing the movie, the background of the mountains in the distance. We both would love to get in there with the metal detector! Imagine all the neat stuff ya could find!.........Thursday, 2/8, we went to Coolidge to see the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, www.mps.gov/cagr. You'll have to read about the ruins. It was hard to imagine people living in the ruins about 700 years ago. We also went grocery shopping. Good old Safeway and Walmart!............Friday, 2/9, we went exploring. Went out on a dirt road called 96 Ranch Road to an old abandon ranch. We took the metal detector, but didn't find anything. It was more about checking everything out in the amount of time we had. We are going to go back there again soon and spend most of the day. Take a picnic lunch, explore, and metal detect..........Today we just went into Florence and looked around. The town was having its annual "Tour of Historical Places". We didn't go on the tour, but looked at all the vendors that were out and about set up in town. It was a good day for all of us and it was in the high 70's!!!!!! Suppose to rain tonight and tomorrow. We'll see. There are dark clouds up there, but.............Its still nice and warm out and its 6:45pm. I have still have the door open. Poor Bonehead is sitting there looking out the screen door, but its so dark out, we're afraid to take her out. Even with the flashlight. She'll have to wait until tomorrow to go out and play again.
