Oh BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! I can tell that we're on our way home now. Its getting colder........We left Barstow, CA and headed north on hwy 99. Last time I was on hwy 99 it was like a washboard. Its not too bad now. Seems like some paving has been going on. We had a good travel day and ended up staying at a "mom and pop" park in Madera, CA. Country Living Park. A good place to spend the night. Wide back-ins and long pull-throughs. It was nice and warm even at night.........We continued up hwy 99 and headed for Angels Camp, CA. On the way we seen all these windmills. They were covering the hills. Kinda neat so I took pics and put a couple on here. Angels Camp is an old mining town. All the towns are small and quaint. Neat little shops and narrow streets. Our Garmin (GPS) didn't know about a new road that bypassed Jamestown and she took us through the middle of it. We had to wait for cars to go first so we could center ourselves and pass through the short main street. Traveling to Angles Camp we were on twisty roads. The kind of roads that Dan likes driving the Harley on and the kind I call "butt pucker" roads when I'm on the back of the bike with him. Our rig is rather big to be going around some of the hairpin turns. Kept me on the edge of the seat! Dan just laughs at me. We got to Angels Camp and drove right by the sign for the fairgrounds where we were suppose to park our rig. We drove through the town trying to find a place to turn around. Finally found a church parking lot. While turning around our pal Dick spotted us. He just happened to be in town at the auto parts store. He led us back to the fairgrounds and we got all set up. We have full hookups here and are out in the middle of a grassy field. We're gonna have to park at fairgrounds more often. We got all set up and about an hour later Dick and Jan came to pick us up. We've been busy ever since. We were camped by Dick and Jan in Quartzsite. They were in the group where we all went to Mexico. Then some of us, including Dick and Jan, broke off from the main group when we hit the States and we continued on to Tombstone/Bisbey/Wilcox then back to Quartzsite. They took us to Copperopolis to pick up our stained glass likeness of Bonehead, took us for a ride showing us the countryside, and we ended up eating Chinese food before coming home. They have a beautiful place sitting on 15 very pretty acres. Right now it is sooooooooooo green here. We haven't seen green grass for a long time. Bonehead would have loved this grassy field.......Yesterday they took us to the snow. First we went to Alpine Lake. The lake is covered with ice then snow. This is where the road ends for normal driving. Its still blocked off for the snow season. We got a snow pass and parked at the end of the blocked off road. A big snow cat track came and picked us up and took us to the small lodge at the lake. It was really pretty. Only way to get around in the area is with snow mobiles and other snow type vehicles. We stayed there for awhile and had lunch in front of a very nice fire in the fireplace. When it was time to go back we didn't ride in the snow cat track. We all crammed into a little red thing called a bubble. That was too fun. The fellow pulled it with a snow mobile and he didn't go slow like the snow cat did. We were hauling butt and it was a blast! On the way back from the lake we stopped by Bear Valley Mountain Resort to watch all the skiers. Lots of people skiing and snowboarding. www.bearvalley.com.....Check it out. We were traveling on hwy 4 and if it hadn't been closed, we could have driven over the pass and ended up at Lake Tahoe. I didn't realize we were that close to Tahoe and Reno. I know that now because when Jan was at the bank yesterday before we left for our outing, we happened to park by a AAA and I ran in and got maps of California. We only had one map and it was outdated. I'll be more "in the know" now seeing as we'll be traveling towards the Redwoods soon. The day was really nice and sunny and you could feel the warmth even standing out in the snow. We came back to Dick and Jan's home, went grocery shopping, went to meet their daughter Kim and her girls, then made and ate dinner. What a nice day. I didn't take my camera with me when I met Kim but will next time so I can put their pics on here too...........We still have more plans with Dick and Jan, but today we need to fuel up the truck, get propane, be on the computer for awhile so I can work on the blog and figure out our route out of here, and I'm making pasta salad for dinner here at our place on Sunday and I promised that I would make my Christmas fudge....... Dan just finished putting in the stained glass. It looks SOOOOOO good. We LOVE having Bonehead's likeness in our door. We met Rick of "Rick's Custom Stained Glass" in Quartzsite and put in our order for our window. I didn't expect to have Bonehead put forever in glass. I just expected a figure head of a cat. We were both so pleased and excited when he told us he could make a likeness of Bonehead. When we picked "her" up in Copperopolis, CA I cried (of course). This piece of art was worth waiting for. If any of you reading this ever want something made in stained glass, we recommend Rick and we know how to get in touch with him. My sister Christine called last night to let us know that they were expecting from 1 to 8 inches of snow at home (Bremerton, WA). (Oh. She called back and it didn't snow. Sounds ok to me.) We don't want any yukky snow when we go home! Hopefully by time we get there the first week of May, Bremerton will just be having regular Spring weather.
